Winter Wonderland
by Craig and Heidi Shoemaker
Our tradition the past 6 years has been to rent a cabin in Lake Arrowhead with our friends, the Hoopers. For our 7th year to the mountains, the cabin we had been renting disappeared off the rental list. We are so thankful to the Bredow family for graciously letting us use theirs to make our memories in!
It was so fun anticipating all the new things we would be abe to check out in Big Bear! Of course we all hoped for snow – which everyone in our family is a big fan of! The day before heading up to the snowless mountains, it finally snowed! The drive up was beautiful and it felt like time flew by while we took in the snow covered trees and mountains.
We were so excited to arrive at Mountainaire!! (Bredow’s you have truly created a beautiful home away from home!) We shoveled the driveway, settled in and then hit the back yard and all of that fresh snow!
We had such a great time and the snow was SO soft!! For dinner that night we ate at El Jacalito Grill. We had eaten there once before and loved it. It did not disappoint this time either and we even ate there again for lunch later in the weekend!
The next morning we headed over to the little Moonridge Zoo. I was surprised to see how much they fit into that tiny area. We pretty much had the place to ourselves which was really nice and it was fun seeing the animals in all of the snow.
Later in the day the Hoopers arrived resulting in more backyard play once they were settled! We also quickly discovered that the mound of snow in the front yard could be used as a perfect sledding hill. That turned out to be the thing that all the kids had the most fun doing! They went out every day and had a blast! That night we tried Saucy Mama’s Pizza. (Thank you Rob and Jill for the tip, it was a yummy place to eat!)
We had plans to go bowling but each time we called ahead we found the wait to be nearly two hours! Hopefully we can try that next time! We had also planned to go sledding at the Alpine Slides for a day but a couple of us ended up getting sick so that will have to go back on our list of things to do next time as well! We did play lot’s of board games, watch a lot of movies, cook a few yummy meals and get in lot’s of snow play right out front! Thank you so much Bredow family for a fantastic stay!! Hope the pictures show what a great time we all had!=0)
