We had an incredible week at the Bredow’s cabin during our school’s “Ski Week” Feb 18-23. This was our third year, and it was the best one yet! We just got our first SLR camera, so I had fun taking a lot more photos than normal! My favorites are posted here.
We arrived on Monday evening and got settled in. We then had a great day skiing on Tuesday at Snow Summit (not many photos here):
On Tuesday night, it snowed a lot (maybe a foot?) and let up mid-morning on Wednesday. This is what it looked like out back:
We spent Wednesday building a snowman in the backyard and sledding. Tons of fun!
On Thursday, we went skiing again, this time on Bear Mountain (our first time there). We had our best day ever! Connor and Zachary went with Suzanne and I for the whole day and wanted to try every jump and feature in the park (including the half pipe!). They were doing so well with their turns and control that we let them try a black run and they both did it without falling once. We were so proud! After Sydney’s lesson, she couldn’t get enough and wanted to ski until the lifts closed, even trying a few jumps herself (crazy girl!).
Friday we relaxed, but the kids wanted to sled again, so we went to a place further from the main road that had great slopes. We were all alone and got to pave our own trails! It was great!
The snow was also much wetter, so we built a bigger snowman – a 7 footer!! We had to build a ramp to get the second ball onto the first one!
We also used the fireplace in the cabin for the first time – it was so comforting and warm! We had to do it 2 nights! It was great just relaxing and spending time in the cabin!
One of the craziest things that happened during our trip was what the snowman did that we built on the back deck. It started leaning forward the first night and then kept doing so gradually until eventually its nose was touching the deck – all without falling over! I took pictures to capture the progression. Check them out!
We had such a great time! Thanks again, Bredows!

Over the three day weekend we had a great time at the cabin. We were able to spend some time with friends, who we haven’t hung out with in too long. Our kids got along really well, and had such a blast playing together. While we were disappointed to miss the snow storm, we did have perfect snowman making snow in the backyard. The kids spent all afternoon making a snowman family.
The weather couldn’t have been better for a great day of skiing. The sun was bright and the air warm. The kids had so much fun. They are getting better and better with each run down the mountain.
Our weekend ended with a shopping spree at the local candy store. Our friends left us a very generous and creative “thank you” gift – a gift certificate to the candy store! Who wouldn’t be thrilled to get to shop for a ridiculous amount of candy! It was such a fun gift – for the adults as much as the kids! =) Thanks Shoemaker family!!
